Scheming with my Guardian Angel
A narrative poem
“Disappointed,” he asked
“Of course,” I said,
“Who wouldn’t be disappointed,” I scoffed
“Well, that’s just sad
You don’t seem to learn,” he replied
Shaking his head
“What’s there to learn?
It’s just one disappointment after another,” I complained
He was quiet for a while
And then-
“That’s just it,” he cried
“You hit the nail on the head
You have begun to expect disappointments.”
“No, not at all.. I just… expect I guess,” I replied
“and I don’t think it’s wrong,” I added hastily
“No, no,” he insisted, even more emphatically
“You’ve got the idea turned upside down- ”
“You ask the Lord to grant you disappointments
Because that’s all you think about
You focus on the nays,
and do not value the good
And that’s just what He
Grants to you.”
“Heed my advice,” he cried
And before I began to speak
He laid bare a plan
To help me work out a viable solution.
And so we plotted, schemed and ideated
My guardian angel and me —
Henceforth to
To put forth the positive
And decline the negative
All in the hope of
Getting the right things
From the maker.
He would understand, you see
The plans I had in mind
And so He could grant me
What was right.
A word of advice
To the wise
Keep your intentions clear, and always stay in the right
Or your intentions, if ulterior,
Will get rejected out right.
